CZECH CINEMA SERIES: IKARIE XB 1 (aka “Voyage to the End of the Universe”)

Based on The Magellanic Cloud by legendary science fiction author Stanisław Lem, it charts the adventures of the crew of a near-light speed ship, Ikarie XB-1, on its 28-month mission to Alpha Centauri… 

What makes Ikarie XB 1 a must-watch for sci-fi fans, however, is its central role in inspiring Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey. Much has been written about the similarities (including how one of the cosmonauts gives birth to what in essence is a star child, inspiring perhaps one of the most famous scenes in 2001: A Space Odyssey)
