Our Special Guest Speaker: Tom Gilbert
We are thrilled to kick off the event with a keynote address by Tom Gilbert, Director of Danish National Research Foundation Center for Evolutionary Hologenomics and Professor of Palaegenomics.

Tom will explore how, for decades, scientists have worked to understand the role of genes in shaping life. Driven by the realisation that genomes encode the building blocks of life, organismal biologists have sought to tease apart exactly how genes in our genomes shape how animal bodies are built, how they adapt and evolve, and even why they exist in the way we do. But – is that all there is to it? Once all animal genomes are sequenced, will we finally understand how life works?

While that was once the expectation, recent revelations over the past decade suggest otherwise. Thanks to the previously unappreciated roles of host-associated microorganisms, the picture appears far more complex – yet even more fascinating!

Ecology Open Mic Night
We will then transition into an Ecology Open Mic Night, where scientists at all career stages can take the microphone and share their research experiences, anecdotes, and funny moments. This is the moment for all voices in the field to be heard - so don’t be shy!

Interactive Art Activity
As the night progresses, independent artist Art Khemia will guide us through an interactive art activity. This will be your chance to reconnect with your artistic side, perhaps awaken your creativity, and foster a sense of community among like-minded individuals.

Of course, no event called "Ecology & Cocktails" would be complete without the drinks to match. Throughout the evening, enjoy a curated selection of cocktails.
