Final Descent x Afvikling Kassetter: Juho Toivonen (FI) + Sofie Herner (SE) + Jonas Torstensen (DK)

An evening of dusty tape loops, sprawling improvisations, and heartfelt melancholia

Final Descent and Afvikling have joined forces for an evening of lo-fi tape aesthetics and melancholic soundscapes. Experience the fragile piano compositions of Finnish minimalist composer Juho Toivonen, the sprawling guitar improvisations of Sweden’s Sofie Herner, and Afvikling Kassetter’s own Jonas Torstensen with his dusty cassette tape collages. All three artists are also affiliated with the renowned Swedish label Discreet Music.

Due to the expanded program, the already announced concert with Juho Toivonen has been moved from Metronomen to Xenon. Previously purchased tickets are, of course, still valid.

Juho Toivonen (FI)

Juho Toivonen’s critically acclaimed debut album Kasveille ja eläimille (2023) – released in collaboration between Futura Resistenza and Ultraääni – weaves improvisations on a detuned piano together with subtle synthesizer textures and field recordings. The music has been described as “achingly intimate yet universally resonant” (The Wire), and the carefully curated record store World of Echo highlights his ability to conjure “immersive environments that invite both contemplation and wonder.”

In April 2025, he will release Lapsikuninkaan fanfaari on the Gothenburg-based label and record store Discreet Music – a work exploring childhood imagination and memory through a unique fusion of lo-fi textures, playful compositions, and a broader instrumental palette.

Look forward to a concert where Toivonen creates a vivid sonic experience – a space where time dissolves, and music speaks directly to the senses.

Sofie Herner (SE)

Sofie Herner, also known under the name Leda, has for nearly two decades left her distinctive and striking mark on the Swedish scene for experimental and improvised music — both as a member of groups like Enhet För Fri Musik, Neutral, and Eternal Music Society, through numerous collaborations, and with her solo project Leda.

Herner’s approach to music is characterized by a primitive, raw, and exploratory attitude rather than an academic or craft-based foundation, with free improvisation and experimental techniques at its core, making for an expression both fragile and unpredictable.

Jonas Torstensen (DK)

On the Copenhagen experimental scene, there is hardly anyone who doesn’t know Jonas Torstensen and his love for dusty cassette tapes in strictly limited editions.

Since his early teenage years, Torstensen has been a true DIY activist with a deep affection for quirky, challenging, melancholic, weird, and psychedelic music in all its forms. It’s a hunger that’s reflected in his own musical universe, where countless expressions converge in an impressive catalogue of releases — from detuned piano improvisations and coarse, organic drone to field recordings and spiritual free-folk.

Torstensen’s distinctive aesthetic is marked by a special calm presence and an incredible richness of detail, always rooted in the moment and with a truly authentic immediacy.
