Summer School

A powerful debut exploring family, belonging and identity within the Vietnamese diaspora in the Czech Republic.

Summer School (2025) is the feature film debut of director Dužan Duong and is set in early-2000s West Bohemia. The film offers a multifaceted portrayal of the Vietnamese immigrant experience in the Czech Republic, focusing on everyday life shaped by cultural displacement and generational expectations.

Structured as a triptych, the narrative follows three perspectives within the same family. Through their intertwined stories, the film explores intergenerational tensions, questions of belonging and the ongoing negotiation of identity in a migrant context.

With sensitivity and emotional depth, Summer School captures both conflict and connection, portraying the complexity of living between cultures. The film establishes Dužan Duong as a compelling new voice in contemporary European cinema.
