The Counterfictionals - Release
The Counterfictionals is a Copenhagen-based sextet for those who love the films of David Lynch, Jane Campion, Wes Anderson, Sergio Leone, and the A24 universe. Each song is inspired by a specific film scene – and during their live performances, the band shares their reflections on the film’s themes and atmosphere as an integral part of the music.
Their soundscape is rich and uniquely layered: from distorted guitars and string arrangements to glockenspiel, theremin, kalimba, and flutes. You’ll hear hints of Ethiopian-style piano, love disguised as melancholy, and samples from cult films that awaken your own memories. The songs explore death, rebirth, decay, and unexpected love – all conveyed through atmospheric and carefully orchestrated compositions.
The band’s debut album No Hay Banda (2019) received glowing international reviews and was nominated for Jazz Album of the Year at the Danish Music Awards. They are now back with their second album, An Incomplete Encyclopedia of Gentle Emotions, set for release on June 13. Audiences can look forward to five cinematic pieces – including a tribute to Marge and Norm from Fargo, a melancholic western-like love song inspired by Kill Bill, and a Twin Peaks–inspired journey into darkness and mystery.
