Paradise Jazz: Amanda Sedgwick 4
She has released five critically acclaimed albums under her own name, most recently “In My Mother’s Garden” (TengTones, 2025), which focuses on her personal and highly melodic compositions. Amanda lives in Stockholm but regularly stays in New York, where she performs at legendary jazz clubs such as Smalls. Most recently in February this year with an album release at Smalls Live. She also plays with a number of Swedish and Danish ensembles, including Radiojazzgruppen, Blue House Jazz Orchestra, Jacob Christoffersen, and Anders Mogensen, as well as her own quintet, which had a release concert at Fasching and performs at the Skeppsholm Festival.
Leif Wigh wrote about “In My Mother’s Garden” in OrkesterJournalen:
“Amanda Sedgwick has an unwavering strength in her saxophone playing that is impossible to resist. A rare, inspired and masterfully crafted piece of jazz music.”
In recent years, Amanda has also made a name for herself as a composer of contemporary music, most recently with a work for organ and saxophone premiered at the Gothenburg International Organ Festival. Here she was described as “one of the country’s foremost jazz saxophonists”.
At the concert at Paradise Jazz, the audience can experience Amanda Sedgwick at the helm of a strong Nordic quartet, where lyricism, intensity, and improvisational energy go hand in hand.
