Girls In Airports - The Early Years & The Coming | CPH Jazz Festival

As part of the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Girls In Airports presents two concerts at Xenon in Huset in Magstræde - an evening where past and present meet, and where the music is revisited in new, open formats.

Please note that there are two concerts: one at 5:00 PM and one at 8:00 PM. Make sure that you have purchased a ticket for the desired concert.

First concert – The Early Years (Concert starts at 6:00 PM)

The first concert dives into the early releases: Girls In Airports, Migration, and Kaikoura.

This revisits a period when the band tapped into something essential in its time—a form of jazz that was not elitist and that opened itself to sounds from around the world. At a time when the internet truly began connecting us globally, a new musical sensibility emerged, of which these albums were a part.

The music from that era is melodic and atmospheric, at times almost naive—but it is precisely in this simplicity that a special vitality and sense of freedom arises, setting the musicians free. The new arrangements open up the material and let it live from where the band stands today. The music carries an open, warm expression that still feels relevant.

Second concert – The Coming (Concert starts at 9:00 PM)

The later concert moves into more recent years with music from Dive, How It Is Now, and Leap—as well as brand new material.

The band will be joined by saxophonist César Joaniquet, whom they met while working on Leap in collaboration with Aarhus Jazz Orchestra. Since then, the collaboration has continued to evolve, including through a residency in 2026 where new music has been created.

The expression moves in a more transcendent direction—with greater openness and more direct improvisation. After several years of three ambitious artistic collaborations, there is now a strong energy in returning to the core of the group and exploring their collective interplay with renewed freedom and inspiration. A concert that asks the question: where does the music go next?

360-degree setup

The concerts take place in Xenon’s theatre hall, where a 360-degree setup is created with the audience closely surrounding the musicians. Here, the music is not just performed but experienced as a shared space—a continuous flow in motion, where presence, dynamics, and collective interplay are at the center.
