I kraft af tiden (By virtue of time)

Experience the award-winning Akela String Quartet and pianist Laurits Dragsted performing works by Steve Reich, Olivier Messiaen, and others—accompanied by a new video installation by Danish photographer Frederik Køhrsen.

Time marches on; the sun rises, the sun sets; the pulse beats in a steady rhythm, the breathing grows calmer. It is understood in the constant movement of these events from past to present to future. But what happens when the markers that shape our understanding of the passage of time are removed or manipulated? The concert *In the Power of Time* explores the bodily experience of time through music and video, which comment on and deconstruct the auditory and visual experience of time.

The AKELA String Quartet is one of Denmark’s most acclaimed young string quartets. Formed in 2019, it consists of violinists Clara Glasdam and Gustav Ranum, violist Kirsten Wilbrandt Kjær, and cellist Oskar Reuben Friis-Hansen. The quartet has a broad range of engagements, spanning from classical quartet concerts to experimental interdisciplinary projects and public-oriented concerts at schools and nursing homes. The quartet has received several awards, including the Leonie Sonning Talent Award in 2024 and the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl Nielsen Talent Award in 2023.

Laurits Dragsted (b. 1989) is a pianist who trained in the soloist program and one of the country’s most sought-after répétiteurs. As a répétiteur, he has been involved in the Royal Danish Theatre’s productions of La Traviata, La bohème, Don Giovanni, Carmen, Peter Grimes, and Aida—in the latter also as conductor of the Royal Danish Opera Chorus. Laurits Dragsted is a prize winner at the Copenhagen Lied Duo Competition and regularly performs in lied recitals at festivals, including the Hindsgavl Festival, the Hvide Sande Festival, and Lindegårds Koncerter.

Before and after the concert, Felix Arthur will be DJing.
