Nova Concerts presents: RESONANCIA

A Sound Journey from Havana to the Horizon
With Abel Marcel (piano) & Carlos Sarduy (trumpet)

After the explosive celebration of rhythm in Nova Concerts’ previous event — where Eliel Lazo and Machito paid tribute to the African heartbeat of Afro-Cuban music — Resonancia opens a new chapter: melody, lyricism, and deep emotional resonance.

A World-Class Duo

Abel Marcel is a Havana-born pianist, composer, and improviser known for his boundary-defying approach. A graduate of Cuba’s prestigious Instituto Superior de Arte, Abel has performed at North Sea Jazz FestivalJazzablancaStockholm Jazz Festival, and more. He has collaborated with Omar SosaDavid MurrayRamon Valle, and Daymé Arocena, among others. His solo project Tula’s Voyage was praised for its powerful fusion of Afro-Cuban ritual, European classical structures, and jazz freedom.

Carlos Sarduy, one of Cuba’s most in-demand trumpet players, is a Latin Grammy Award winner with a stunning career as both sideman and bandleader. He has recorded or performed with Chucho ValdésBebo ValdésEsperanza SpaldingSteve ColemanBuika, and Omar Sosa, touring from Jazz à Vienne to Montreux, from Tokyo to Dakar. His albums Luz and Inner Dialog showcase a unique blend of Yoruba spirituality, flamenco, funk, and jazz — carried by a fearless, soul-filled trumpet voice.

From Havana to the Horizon

Together, these two visionaries craft a music that is both intimate and expansive — anchored in Afro-Cuban tradition, yet reaching far beyond it.

"Following up on the previous concert, marking the role of Africa in the fabric of Afro-Cuban jazz, now we continue this journey through the melodic landscape that covered that rhythmic foundation — creating the fusion between Africa and European traditions, shaping the sounds known today as Latin jazz in the hands of these two incredible Cuban musicians."
— Abel, Artistic Director, Nova Concerts

This isn’t just a concert. It’s a continuation, a deepening — where rhythm gives way to melody. If the previous concert spoke through the drum, Resonancia speaks through harmony, improvisation, and lyrical expression. A conversation between piano and trumpet, spirit and memory, past and future.

Here, the music doesn't merely perform — it breathes, it resonates, and transforms.
