Paradise Jazz: Carl Winther Trio Feat Tommy Smith

With nearly a million monthly listeners, pianist Carl Winther has firmly established himself as a musician with a unique ability to connect with his audience. You can feel it immediately in his empathetic, elegant, and deeply swinging piano playing. Through international collaborations with musicians such as Randy Brecker and Walt Weiskopf, as well as 15 years touring with saxophone legend Jerry Bergonzi, Carl Winther has made a name for himself in the international jazz scene.

Now Carl Winther is joining forces with the Scottish saxophone virtuoso Tommy Smith, who has been a prominent voice on the international jazz scene since he joined vibraphonist Gary Burton’s band in the mid-1980s. Drum legend Jack DeJohnette has said of Tommy Smith: “One of the important voices among tenor players today.”

In addition to Carl Winther on piano, the Carl Winther Trio consists of the young bassist Rune Fog-Nielsen and the well-established, Grammy-winning drummer Anders Mogensen. Together, they form a tightly knit trio that will accompany an international jazz luminary this evening.
