Paradise Jazz: Jerry Bergonzi Quartet (DK/US) | Copenhagen Jazz Festival
Blues music, with its blue tones and physical expression, is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for jazz. At this concert, you can experience one of the greatest living tenor saxophonists in the United States giving his take on how blues can sound today. You will also meet the extremely raw-swinging Danish jazz profiles Carl Winther, Anders Mogensen and Rune Fog Nielsen, with whom Bergonzi has collaborated since 2010. As Bergonzi puts it: “It was love at first chord”, the first time he played with this trio. Together they have toured all over the globe, and they have a telepathic interplay that gives the listener an extraordinarily fascinating experience, which can only be achieved through all the years they have been on the road.
Bergonzi, now 78, began his career in 1968, playing with drummer Roy Haynes. Since then, he has toured the world with pianist Dave Brubeck and recorded for Blue Note Records. Since 1990, Bergonzi has been a professor at the New England Conservatory, considered one of the finest conservatories in the United States.
The quartet has toured all over the world. They have headlined the Hong Kong Jazz Festival, have been a regular at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival and have recorded countless releases. Most recently: with Jerry Bergonzi: “Presence”.
