PETS
The film is an unusual mix of exploitation cinema, road movie and dark satire.
The story follows Bonnie, a teenage runaway wandering across the United States. Along the way she encounters a series of eccentric and unsettling characters who each attempt to control or exploit her in different ways.
Among them are a criminal who involves her in a kidnapping scheme, an artist who wants her as a model and muse, and a wealthy collector with a disturbing fascination for keeping women as part of his private “collection.”
Pets shifts between the absurd, the provocative and the unintentionally comedic. The result is a strange and memorable cult film from one of the more bizarre corners of 1970s American cinema.
Bad Movie Club invites audiences to watch the film together and explore why films like this continue to fascinate cult movie fans today.
