Vinterjazz: The Counterfictionals

Look forward to a unique evening at Paradise Jazz, where The Counterfictionals combine film, storytelling, and imaginative jazz in a colorful musical universe.

Each composition originates from a film scene and is presented with short stories, illustrations, and unconventional instrumentation filled with humor, depth, and musicality.

The Counterfictionals was created by composer, bandleader, and multi-instrumentalist Kristoffer Rosing-Schow, who leads a sextet of musicians in top form. Inspired by the great Italian film composers – known from Fellini, Sergio Leone and David Lynch, among others – Rosing-Schow creates rhythmically inciting music, which the orchestra conveys with both energy and playfulness.

The project challenges the musicians on both their main instruments and more unexpected sound sources such as toy pianos, Jew's harps, home organs, and the famous nail head, invented by Rosing-Schow himself.

The debut album No Hay Banda received enthusiastic international acclaim, was named among the best releases of the year, and was nominated for a DMA for Jazz Release of the Year. In June 2025, the follow-up An Incomplete Encyclopedia of Gentle Emotions was released.

The musicians are known for their collaborations with Bisse, Lotte Anker, Afenginn, Poul Krebs, Wafande, Mark Solborg, and others.

A concert for film enthusiasts, music lovers, and anyone with an open mind—and a rare chance to experience jazz that thinks far beyond the edge of the screen.
