Musikcaféen
Musikcaféen is the place where you can discover new international artists performing in Denmark for the first time and new Danish artists on their first tour or debut concert.
It is a stage for the curious listener with an eye on the latest underground trends. Here you can experience the musicians up close in a cozy and intimate atmosphere.
Great musicians have graced the Musikcaféen
In recent times, the Musikcaféen has presented leading musicians such as Von Quar, Pil and Blæst, before their big breakthroughs.
It all started back in 1972, when it was called Vizehuset, until it changed its name to Musikcaféen in 1976. Political folk music and psychedelic rock were particularly dominant in the early days, and the venue was a gathering place for the hippie movement. The stage was taken over by names such as C.V. Jørgensen, Skousen & Ingemann, Povl Dissing, and Burnin Red Ivanhoe, while Mik Schack was responsible for the legendary posters. In the 1980s, Dr. John, Kliché, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and D-A-D, among others, played at Musikcaféen.
Both then and now, Musikcaféen has been known as an essential haven in Indre By for niche genres and alternative music.
