Paradise Jazz: Kira Martini Quartet

Over the past decade, Kira Martini has distinguished herself as a singer and songwriter with a warm, resonant voice and a special ability to create presence in her concerts. Her music contains both thoughtfulness and joy of life, and she moves effortlessly between the free expression of jazz, the reflection of folk music and the narrative nerve of songwriting.

In 2023, Kira Martini received the prestigious Palæ Bars Jazz Award – an honor previously given to Hugo Rasmussen, Ed Thigpen and Kenny Drew, among others. The following year, she and the duo Dybfølt received the DR P2 Award for the year's 5 Best for the album Sange fra en Væg.

With her quartet, she presents a repertoire that ranges from American jazz standards to Brazilian classics and her own compositions. Together they create a musical universe with clear roots in tradition, but with a personal and contemporary expression.

In 2024, Kira Martini released the album Open Wide on Storyville Records, featuring her own songs inspired by the songwriting tradition of the 1970s. The album, which draws on artists such as Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Nick Drake, received five stars in both All That and GAFFA, and several tracks have been in rotation on P8 Jazz.
